  IMPHAL  COLLEGE TEACHERS ASSOCIATION

 IMPHAL COLLEGE TEACHERS ASSOCIATION (ICTA)

It is an association of the teachers of Imphal College which is committed not only to the cause of the teachers but also to the welfare and development of the college. The association extends its activities in national and international level in the affairs of the service conditions of the teachers and for the cause of higher education. One of the unique features of the association is that, in the college, it initiates a movement called Teachers’ Movement for Self Initiative (TMSI) to enhance the mission of the college in realising its vision.

TEACHERS’ MOVEMENT FOR SELF INITIATIVE (TMSI)
The teachers and staff members are fully committed to the welfare and development of the college. Recently, Imphal College Teachers’ association (ICTA) had launched Teachers’ Movement for Self Initiative (TMSI). This is a Teachers’ movement for self initiative in the field of Academic, Development, Finance and Self Sustenance and other related areas of the college, under this movement a few innovative programmes had been taken up.

OPEN LIBRARY
The Open Library System has been created with the objective of providing free access of the students to the literature of their choice. Imphal College has one unique system of making the students acquainted with books. Open Library System is an experimental library initiated by the teachers of Imphal College unde r Imphal College Teachers’ Association. In this system specific areas of the campus are used for displaying various magazines, newspapers, science journals, etcetera, without any special rule and supervision. The philosophy behind the system is that – Books are expendable and it goes where the readers are. One remarkable feature in this system is that – the journal and the books are all donated by the faculty members, staff members and even by the student themselves.

GOLDEN JUBILEE GARDEN
As a part of Teachers’ Movement for Self Initiative programme, ‘Imphal College Golden Jubilee Garden’ was created at the beginning of the year 2008. The uniqueness of this garden is that, all the flowers grown in this garden are solely contributed and planted by the teachers and staff members.

ARTS BLOCK GARDEN
It was created in 2006 by the lady teachers of the college. The maintenance of the garden was borne by them with the creation of a fund by subscribing a nominal amount among them. But the maintenance of the garden was overtaken from 2008 under Teachers’ Movement for Self Initiative programme by Imphal College Teachers’ Association by a general body resolution.

 IMPHAL COLLEGE STUDENTS’ UNION (ICSU)

The college has a student body called Imphal College Students’ Union. The office bearers of the union are elected from among the students of the college by holding an election and the tenure of the body is one academic session. After election, the union is formed with the Principal as Chairperson, the Dean of Students’ Welfare as Vice-chairperson, the elected students and their respective teacher-in-charge. A fund is created for this union from the fees collected under the head ‘Union fee’ from the students at the time of admission and the same is allocated among the elected students according to their activities.

The main functions of the union are publication of annual magazine for students, arrangement of internal and external excursions for students, holding of annual sports meet for students, exercise of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, maintenance of Boy’s and Girl’s Common rooms etc.
