EXAMINATIONS

INTERNAL/COLLEGE EXAMINATIONS
Apart from the examinations conducted by the concerned university, that is, Manipur University, the college conducts various examinations – Unit Test / Oral Test/ Terminal examinations etc. But these examinations have no credit to the Annual University Examinations.

UNIVERSITY EXAMINATIONS
The examination system adopted by the concerned university i.e. Manipur University for the promotion of students to the next class or for awarding degree to the students after completion of course is annual system. Generally the annual examinations of B.A./B.Sc. Ist year and 3rd year are held in the month of April of every year and that of B.A./B.Sc. 2nd year in the month of May.

 

RESULTS
1.
The results of the examinations conducted at college level are made available on the notice boards of the concerned Departments and /or the common notice board of the college.
2.
University Examinations
The results of the examinations conducted by the concerned university, that is, Manipur University are available from the University website manipuruniv_ac.in, leading local newspaper(s)(on the day of the declaration of results) and from the office of the college.

 

SYLLABI
        
           The curricula and syllabi of the courses available in the college are framed by Manipur University to which the college is affiliated. Hence, the syllabi of the courses are available from the university, its website www.manipuruniv_ac.in and the office of the college.

 

AWARDS

The College has the provision of some awards as academic incentiveand they are given as below:-

1. NALINI SHARMA MEMORIAL CASH AWARDS
 
This award is given to University Toppers (First Class) from this college every year in the University B.A. and B.Sc. 3rd Year Examination in any discipline of Arts and Science, in memory of Late Nalini Sharma, former Vice-Principal of this college who devoted his life to the making of the college.
Cash Awards:                         Rs. 300/- each subject
   
2. SOROKHAIBAM SHAMUNGOUBI DEVI MEMORIAL CASH AWARDS
 
This award is given to the Best and Second Best Science Graduate of this College every year as per University Result of B.Sc. 3rd year Examination on the basis of aggregate of marks obtained. The award is donated by Dr. S. Pravabati Devi, Retired Reader, Department of Zoology, Imphal College, in memory of her late mother Smt. Sorokhaibam Shamungoubi Devi.

Second Best Science Graduate-         Rs.    500/-
   
3. THOUDAM NILAMANI SINGH MEMORIAL CASH AWARD
 
This award is given every year to the Best and Second Best Arts Graduate of this College every year as per University Result of B.A. 3rd year Examination. They are selected on the basis of the aggregate marks obtained. This award is donated by his wife Smt. Thoudam Ongbi Purnimashi Devi and her family in memory of late Thoudam Nilamani Singh, who had dedicated his life for the cause of he college as a Principal of Imphal College (1956-1982)

4. CHINGANGBAM THAMBAL DEVI MEMORIAL CASH AWARD
 
This award is given every year to the Best Botany graduate who got at least 1st class Honours in Botany as per University Result of B.Sc. 3rd year Examination. This award is donated by Smt. Ch. Kamini Devi Retd. Lecturer (Selection Grade), Department of Botany, Imphal College, in fond memory of her grandmother.

5. LEIHAORUNGBAM NINGOL THINGBAIJAM ONGBI MALOTI DEVI AWARD
 
This award is given every year to the best Graduate in Physics Honours as per the University Result of B. Sc. 3rd year examination. This award is donated by Shri Leihaorungbam Mohendro Singh, Lab. Attendent, Physics Department of this college in the name of his sister Leihaorungbam Ningol Thingbaijam Ongbi Maloti Devi.
   

 

SCHOLARSHIPS

           The college is striving all out effort to give scholarships to the deserving students and for this the college is rendering effort to create a fund in the near future but, at present, the college is not in a position to award any kind of scholarship from its fund to the students. On the other hand, the college is sponsoring the deserving students to enjoy scholarships e.g., merit scholarships (state/central government), scholarships for ST/SC/OBC students, scholarships for the students of minority groups etc., given by different Departments of State/ Central government.

      

LIBRARY

CENTRAL LIBRARY
The College has a Central Library. The Central Library has around 20,000 books to cater to as many as 1500 readers. The Library is fully computerised  and provided  effective service to both the teachers and students.

DEPARTMENT LIBRARY

Apart from the Central Library, each and every Department of the college has its Department Library. Students can read books at or borrow books from the Central Library or concerned departmental Libraries.

OPEN LIBRARY
The Open Library System has been created with the objective of providing free access of the students to the literature of their choice. Imphal College has one unique system of making the students acquainted with books. Open Library System is an experimental library initiated by the teachers of Imphal College, In this system specific areas of the campus are used for displaying various magazines, newspapers, journals, etcetera, without any special rule and supervision. The philosophy behind the system is that – Books are expendable and they go where the readers are. One remarkable feature in this system is that the journals and the books are all donated by the faculty members, staff members and even by the student themselves.

INTERNET ACCESS FACILITIES
A few Computers are reserved in the Library for the students who want to avail of Internet Service. They can sit and browse during their off time.

AMENITIES

CANTEEN
In the College Campus, there are two canteens and they are providing hygienic foods to the teachers, staff and students. The college monitors the quality of food available in the canteens. At present, the college cannot provide food at least in some food items to the students but has plan for providing it at subsidy rate to the students.

INTERNET ACCESS FACILITIES
A few Computers are reserved in the Library for the students who want to avail of Internet Service. They can sit and browse during their off time.

COMPUTER CENTRE

The emerging need of the computer in having an effective teaching – learning process in the college and to enhance the students in the realm of the age of Information Technology, the college has a computer centre with a meagre number of computers with a hope to impart, at least, basic computer courses to the students having no knowledge of Computer.

SEMINAR HALL
The college has a well equipped Seminar Hall having capacity of 60 persons. The Hall is used not only for holding seminars but also for conducting classes which need the support of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

BOYS’ COMMON ROOM
It is a day home centre for boy students of the college. Some indoor game items like Carom, Table Tennis, Chess, and Badminton etc. are made available in this common room for the students and the students enjoy these game items at their off time. The Common room is run under the supervision of Boy’s Common Room Secretary, a member of the Imphal College Students’ Union.

GIRLS’ COMMON ROOM
It is also a day home centre for girl students. A Make-up room equipped with Dressing table is attached to the centre. In their off time, the girl students enjoy the indoor games like Carom, Badminton, Table Tennis, Chess etc. As given above, the centre is also supervised by Girls’ Common Room Secretary, a member of Imphal College Students’ Union.

 

STUDENTS  WELFARE

           The College endeavours all out effort to take utmost care of the students in all spheres of their lives inside and outside the campus of the college. For this the college forms various committees and opens a number of cells as given below under a centre called Student Support Centre.

STUDENT SUPPORT CENTRE
The college has one of the best systems of Student Support and Progress Management Programmes run under the Dean of Students’ Welfare. The center has involved itself in various student support activities.

DEAN OF STUDENTS’ WELFARE
The College has a Dean of Students’ Welfare to look after the welfare of the students. Under the Deanship various cells and committees are formed to cater and serve the diverged needs of the students.

STUDENTS’S WELFARE AND GRIEVANCE CELL COMMITTEE
To enhance the activities of the Dean, a committee called Students Welfare and Grievance Cell Committee is constituted the Principal as Chairperson and the Dean of Students’ Welfare as Vice-Chairperson.
There are various cells/sub-committees actively functioning under this committee. Some of them are:

GRIEVANCE REDRESSAL CELL
This cell is working to redress the grievances of the students. For this the committee initiates to collect the various grievances of the students including their experience about the campus environment of the college and to redress the grievances.

CAREER COUNCELLING CELL

Expert counselors on different careers can also be availed in this cell. In collaboration with the ‘Career Guidance Cell of Directorate of Higher Education’ the Cell organises various awareness programmes regarding different careers and the study objectives.

PARENTS & TEACHERS ASSOCIATION
This is an association formed to have a close relation between the College in term of its teachers and the parents of the students so that they can interact for the welfare of the students of the college.

EARN WHILE YOU LEARN PROGRAMME
Students who are interested in earning while they are still learning can enjoy the facilities of this scheme. The college earmarked a specific sum for the employment of students in the matters of college maintenance, construction works, et cetera. Interested students can enroll their names under this scheme and they can work according to their skill and availability of time.

GUIDANCE & COUNSELLING CENTRE FOR WOMEN
In order to deal separately the needs, grievances etc. of the girl students, the cell has been constituted. Expert lady teachers are the members of the committee and they effectively deal with the matter.

The college has well disciplined contingents of NCC Army Wings under the charge of trained and experienced officers. There are two separate wings for boys and girls. The strength of boys and girls wings were 120 and 65 respectively in the last academic session i.e., 2008-09. Any student of the college may join NCC subject to physical fitness. Students who want to join this training are advised to contact the ANO’s.

NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS)

          The National Service Scheme (NSS) was introduced in this college in 1973 with the growth of the awareness of the desirability of involving students in the service of community where they belong to its motto “Not me but you”. The college is proud of having two NSS units with an involvement of 100 student volunteers in each unit. Normally, enrolment to this scheme is done with the commencement of a new academic session. Student who desire to join this scheme are advised to contact the NSS Programme Officers. Recently, the office of NSS units has been refurbished and effective involvement of the students in the national service is expected.

             Considering the need of decentralisation of the power and function of the Principal and to promote (i) transparency (ii) integrity (iii) belongingness and sense of responsibility and to have (a) effective teaching–learning and evaluation process (b) the actual framework of the higher education institution etc. for the smooth functioning of the college in achieving the academic excellence in higher education, Imphal College has an Academic Council to assist the Principal in looking after its academic affairs.
